17″ is enough
Purchased this a few years ago from Amazon – its still my primary computer. It does all that I need it to do and does it well. Much more reliable than the apple laptop that I had prior.
Nice iMac…
This is definitely one of the best desktops out there without a doubt. I love the new design, I think they really improved on that part. I have been using the Macbook for a while(pretty much since they were released) and I have to say I like the iMac way more. Apple made the right choice by putting in the 160 GB hard drive. I was going to get the new aluminum imac, untill I started reading the stories on various discussion boards that the screens on them are: too reflective, and they used cheap TFT/H-IPS(?) screens that are giving many people fits-especailly Professionals-an EXTRAORDINARY number of people-I would think Apple may have to do a recall. Im not sure what to think about the near flat keyboard.
So…I went to my local BEST BUY and they had a few of all the just-discontinued Oct 2006 models left;
I chose the 17″, 2.0mhz and will move up to 2 gb RAM. 1 weeks and so far no trouble;
But heres the catch-this same model was about $1450 a month ago, and I got mine at a whopping $950!
New, sealed never been opened.
With 1gb RAM it seems fast enough, but I may boost it too 1.5 or 2 gbs -and scream…
I will wait until week 51 of my owning it, then get Applecare.
No title needed
I don’t think I will use windows again and I don’t hate windows at all. I just don’t understand how it became a popular format to use. This was my first experience with a mac and I will never switch back to a p.c. OSX is easier and quicker to use than windows. I don’t have virus problems. I don’t have to buy any anti-spyware software. I feel I saved money buying a mac. It costs more to start off with a mac but if you buy one and feel you’ve been ripped off in anyway contact apple and you will speak with someone who speaks ENGLISH fluently. Try doing that with HP or Dell. You will need a translator to order a part for you from India. I wish you good luck. Been There Done That! The only thing I wish was more available to OSX are music downloading websites. Limewire Pro is what is available and is pretty bad especially if you have used Ares before. I have heard that pay sites are ok for mac users but I have never used them myself. When you get your mac out of the box it will do way more than your regular p.c. will from the start. It will walk you through the process of setting it up to you. One really great thing about OSX is that you can bookmark the websites you use on a regular basis. With one click you can switch from ebay to amazon in a matter of seconds. I read my mail, check amazon and ebay in less than five minutes. If you can’t shake some of your windows ordeals you can by using parralels for around 80 bones and you can use windows on your mac. I did it but I hardly use it. Maybe for music and thats about it. Other than that you will have a one day ordeal figuring out the mini mouse and how OSX works. After that you will probably be very happy with your purchase.

broke in the first month
Worked good for the first week, then the formatter went bad and we were instructed to take it to the local authorized repair shop. Three weeks later we’re still waiting for the part. HP customer support is non existent. After three weeks agreed to accept a refurbished replacement but wanted a 1 year warranty, if the refurbished is just as good shouldn’t they stand behind it as well? HP said no go and wanted me to pay to ship the refurbished printer. So if you want a printer that doesn’t work and like to spend hours on the phone with tech and customer support, buy this printer.

Clean, elegant, graceful and powerful.
The Titanium G4 PowerBooks are in their final state of evolution. Rumor has it that the new version will be radically different in design. As such, I would take advantage of this final incarnation of the Ti Book because it has gone through all of the refinements and fine tuning that has put it at the top of the game. Sure, the newer model will have more bells and whistles — but keep in mind that it will also have a lot of things needed to be tweaked and adjusted. The Ti Book has had several generations of refinement and is now perfect, solid and reliable. Remember, a computer is only as good as the work you do on it and this Ti Book has a long pedegree to back it up and years of refinement that have brought it to its optimal (and final) version! Buy it before it is gone. It’s quite simply the ultimate computing machine!
The greatest laptop ever with the best OS.
I love this powerbook. It is without a doubt the handiest computer that I’ve ever used. The wide ratio display makes it easy to have multiple coding windows open while the convenient brightness controls allow me to work easily in changing light conditions. The mute button is handy whenever the phone rings.
But that’s just the start of the story. The really beauty of this laptop is that it runs OS X. Mac OS X represents the pinnacle of evolution in operating systems. The highly intuitive environment lets a user get their work done without having to really think about the computer. It is more or less a seamless interaction. But if you need to leverage the UNIX core, it is just a terminal window away and gives you all the power you could possibly seek.
The Best iPod Accessory Ever
I freely admit, I am writing this at the sunset rather than beginning of the Titanium PowerBook’s technological lifecycle. But, as a died in the wool Wintel person, what is really remarkable is that, after a hiatus of about 10 years, I have bought a Macintosh again. You can blame this on a combination of three things – one of my computers died, I needed a portable, and I just bought an iPod. Supporting the latter, and getting my ears onto iTunes was the deciding factor.
There is no question that the Titanium is a superb computer. It is every bit as fast as my Pentiums, it is beautifully designed, and the 15 inch screen is a big plus for my tired eyes. But what is really amazing is the overall slickness of the operating system and its standard software. I was setting up a wireless network for myself when I bought the PowerBook. Literally the only thing I had to do to get it to fit in was to tell it to activate its internal Airport. Meanwhile, I am still fighting glitches in my windows machines. I plugged in my iPod, my cell phone, and my PDA and when I ran iSync I got all three devices and the Powerbook to synchronise. And this is typical of OSX’s approach to seamless operation.
The Powerbook excels at graphics and music work, and that is where my interests lie. The included software provides basic functionality which can be fleshed out with a host of excellent software. And the Powerbook is certainly strong enough to run them. With a built in DVD burner as well as both USB2 and FireWire 400 connectors you can accessorize and gadgetize this machine to your hearts content.
Of course, there is a price to pay. OSX is different at heart than any Windows OS. Not in big ways, but in countless little deviations that will take a bit of acclimatization. Even purchased software life Microsoft Office will do unexpected things on occasion. I heartily recommend that you don’t fall for Apple’s “you don’t need a manual” hype and go out and buy one of those 700 page volumes that ramble their way through the host of Macintosh features. The more you find out about this machine, the better it gets.
I LOVE this computer
Mine is actually a generation back (800MHz processor). It’s more than fast enough for the things that I do (graphic design, mathematics, music recording, programming, internet browsing… can you tell I have catholic interests?) The Apple bundled apps are fantastic, and iPhoto incorporates enough of what I do to my pictures that I rarely open PhotoShop any more (not to mention the permanent retention of the original photo is always a good thing). I rarely reboot the system (it’s just not necessary unless I do an OS upgrade), or close applications and all is well. It’s nice to have Word, Excel, Safari, iTunes, Eudora, Illustrator and InDesign all at the ready at a moment’s notice.
Perhaps most exciting is the realization that with this machine I just don’t need a desktop anymore. My G4 tower gets only occasional use anymore (and the PC hasn’t been turned on for nearly a year). This is easily the only computer you’ll ever need.
The best computer money can buy!
My 15″ Powerbook G4 has lived up to every one of my expectations and more. I’m a teacher that uses both Windows and Mac computers on a regular basis. It wasn’t until I had a chance to use OS X that I decided to purchase a new Mac laptop.
I already owned one of the original iMacs, but that computer is starting to show its age. The computer that I used the most regularly is the PC that I built for my wife last spring (AMD Athlon XP 1800 running Windows XP Pro). That computer has served us well, but like every other windows machine I’ve ever used, it has major software problems. Here’s the defining reason to buy a Mac over a PC. Apple integrates their software into their hardware designs. Microsoft on the other hand has very limited control over the hardware design of computer manufacturers. Thus, Windows tends to have more issues with hardware/software conflicts. Once you try OS X and all of Apples applications (iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, Safari), you will realize that the power of this Powerbook is at the heart of its software.
I have yet to see a PC laptop that can match the elegance of the Powerbook G4 and the sophistication of OS X. Sony comes close, but they will remain one step behind as long as their computers run Windows.
On the other hand, my Powerbook and OS X is completely flawless. This laptop, like every other that I’ve ever used, gets quite toasty on your lap after you using for 30+ minutes. There’s a simple fix for this though. I just put a blanket or a pillow underneath the computer when I use it on my lap. Other than that, I have “0″ complaints. The screen is beautiful. The 1GHz processor makes computer “feel” quite snappy. And the built-in DVD-RW, paired with iDVD, is awesome!
My best advice for anyone considering the purchase of this Powerbook is to test it at an Apple Store, borrow one from a friend, or just buy it. You won’t regret it!

a classic from yesteryear
The G3 iMac was the start of the iMac line but I think this “iLamp” was the one that solidified the iMac line. Even though it is now 2009 and the iMacs of today are far more powerful than the iLamp, If one of these could be had for like $100 or so, I think it’d be worth grabbing one just for as a collector’s item, a reminder to the current iMacs where they descended from…
I like mine but I know I paid too much
I am pretty used to the MacOs so I stuck with it when I decided to buy a new computer. However comparing what I got to a Windows PC didn’t make me feel good. For 1/2 the price you can buy a PC with the same features, flat screen and speed. So I paid over 500 more for the privilege of using the MacOS. If I knew how to use Windows I would have switched. I was pretty steamed.
World-class computing
It’s such a pleasure to work in OS X, especially on such a beauty as my iMac. I dread having to test our sites on our PC–what a mess that poor thing is. Even our Linux technical administrator hates the PC, and is converting to the Mac.
I don’t know how many nights I’ve simply stepped away, let the Energy Saver sleep the monitor and the machine, and come back in the morning and check my email int the near instant my iMac wakes up–with no crashes, wierd problems (that plagued OS 9 and Windows).
Why people choose to ignore the Mac, or make judgements without thoroughly investigating computing is beyond me.

Why in the world would anyone want the hassle of Windoze when you can have an art piece like this? I guess some people like self abuse. A truly wonderful computer.
The nearly perfect computer
I have been a PC user for years. I even work for a software company that only runs PC’s. I finally made the switch and love the new iMac. I will start with the only negative since that list is so short. I wish I would have bought the 17 inch. That was my choice, not the computers. I had the machine up and running in minutes. I had it sharing an internet connection with my three PC’s in a few more minutes. I was importing digital pictures from my camera next. All of this in less than 30 minutes. I then hooked up my printer and printed some pictures. Just like the ad’s say, I never loaded any drivers, had any crashes or any other problems. A great screen, fast processor and easy to use. I will be burning my first DVD later today so stay tuned or should I say ituned….

Great Mini but why so much

Perfect for those who want to customize add-on, for stand-alone HD storage
This little Mac CPU is perfect for people who want a powerful but inexpensive CPU without the frills. Just 2.5″ high and 6.5″ square, it fits almost anywhere: on a desk, in a drawer, on a narrow shelf. The unit comes with a Mac SuperDrive for burning and playing DVD/CDs, a remote control, BlueTooth technology, the iLife Suite (iPhoto, iTunes, Garage Band, Photo Booth, iMovie, etc.), and the newest OS X. That’s it. You have to buy your own keyboard, mouse, monitor, and anything else you’d like to add.
This little unit is also great for hooking up to a TV as a stand-alone HD video replay. Especially if you rent or buy iTunes movies and have different digital content you want to play, the Mac Mini works well. Apple TV, a special purpose machine, doesn’t have the versatility that the Mini does.
Pros:
– This little guy is fast and reliable. If you are not confident about installing extra memory yourself, this 2 GB version is for you.
– Size. No more towers!
– Leopard is utterly fantastic. Make sure you take the “tour” to fully appreciate its capabilities and features since many aren’t immediately obvious. It allows easy sharing of files within a network, wireless or otherwise, automatics back-ups to an external hard drive (purchase separately) that can be accessed according to a specific date and time, and in-network video conferencing (again, you have to supply the web cam.) My favorite feature is setting my computer to turn on at the same time every day so it’s ready to go when I walk into my home office.
– The no-frills package allows users to buy their preferred size of monitor. Since monitors bought separately usually cost far less than what Apple charges, this ends up being a cost saver as well. The Apple keyboard works best with the Mac mini since there’s a special key for ejecting CD/DVDs, but any keyboard will do.
Cons
– The power button is on the back of the machine, while the Super Drive slot is in the front. This means that the unit must be accessible, both front and back, unless you set the system to turn on automatically. This is the main reason I cannot give this unit five stars.
– The Super Drive is noisy when it starts up.
For people who want to keep their current monitor and other peripherals, the Mac Mini is an excellent and economical choice. If you need to buy all the accessories, the price can start to add up, and you might want to look at a different computer. Even so, the small size can be a huge bonus for those who are short on space.
I love my Mac Mini, and I’ve never regretted purchasing it.

MACs are great!
I run a computer lab at school with 30 IMac flat screens. They are going on 7 years old and still running in great shape. I also have a Mac and a Dell laptop. I am on computers all day long and also repair and maintain the lab. My Dell laptop is only 3 years old and has had 3 screens, and 2keyboards replaced. The feel of the keys when you type is so much smoother on the Mac and if you work with graphics or photos the Mac is far more superior. They are by far the best.
works ok, but too expensive
instead of buying the imac 20″, buy a mac mini, a 20″ monitor from any half-decent manufacturer, and a keyboard/mouse. it will cost less than half as much and work just as well.
Best desktop on the market
Without a doubt, this is the best desktop computer on the market today. The price point is excellent, the software bundle is incredible, and the all-in-one design from Apple is beautiful. The only bad thing is is that if you go with the iMac instead of a Dell machine, you won’t be able to spend time on finding device drivers, updating your virus software, and rebooting after every single program installation. Get a Mac! It just works.
Windows, watch out!
I was a Mac user until 1998, when it appeared Apple was as done as three-month old bread. I gave up hope and went with Windows, fought through 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP (never bothered with Millennium), and pretty much considered defeat.
Until the iBook G4, and then, my daughter bought the iMac.
Yes, it is pricey, which will keep me out of one for a little while. But Windows users, the cost is WORTH IT! It boots up fast, it is sleek, when programs crash, they only crash the program, not the whole machine.
Get this, Windows users: It runs Windows XP (with Parallel), but even better, it boots Windows FASTER than my Athlon 64 computer with 512 MB ram. Much faster!
My daughter now has two solid computers for the price of one Mac. She has all the stuff she needs with her Mac, but also has a Windows machine for some of our software and programs we do not want to replace right now.
I truly believe that the Mac’s prices will drop significantly as more and more people buy it…and I really like not having to deal with virus protection.
(Yes, I still have virus protection for the partition used to run XP on my daughter’s Mac).
Before anyone thinks I am simply on the Mac bandwagon, I was tech coordinator at my old high school for three years and work with both every day as a teacher and free lance journalist. As soon as I have enough money, I will buy a Macbook, and also replace my desktop with an iMac.
They are worth the money, will be alive and kicking for a while to come, and for the first time since I first started using a Mac back in 1985, I believe Macs have made themselves a part of the landscape for a long time to come.
Thanks to the addition of the Intel chip and the ability to use Windows, Macs are worth the cost.

Anyone who know me by my Real Name, knows I’m a long time supporter of the Redmond Campus.
I wouldn’t (again) touch a Mac til it could run XP/Vista. The day the Intel Mac’s came out with (unsupported) support for XP, I lived to my word and bought that day.
It took 1 Infinity Loop in CA about 5 days to take the rug out of us geeks wanting to run with XP, using Boot Camp.
The funny thing… I still have not installed XP. I found speech software for OS X… (my holy grail)… I can talk to my mac… I can open Office formats with Open Office. I don’t have to concern myself with the latest “Oh my gosh” security patch.
I hope my life long Redmond friends wake up and get *NIX type security in Vista or 2010 (Singular?), quickly. Else Steve and company will have the last laugh for a few decades.

Great Customer Service
This 17-inch iMac was the perfect size for me and was not available in many places. It was delivered within days, perfectly packed and when I had reason to speak to a Techno customer rep, Andre was very helpful.
Better than a PC, but not great.
As a computer novice and recent Mac convert I was dissapointed in the fact that this product is not as user friendly as it would appear in their advertisements. It can be almost as frustrating as trying to figure things out on a PC. What I do like about this product: looks great, it’s compact (the CPU is built into the display), and it’s fast. If you are thinking about making the switch from a PC you may want to go to one of the Apple stores and do a test drive first. One last thing, if you are comfortable using a PC mouse, then get ready for some frustration, as this one takes some getting used to.

Continuing the excellent iMac line – getting better all the time. Easy to set up. Easy to use. Reliable. Quick. Elegant. Buy one – you know you want to.
The only thing I can say against it is that I preferred the whimsical styling of the previous “table lamp” design.
If you personally find a 17″ screen to be small by today’s standards, try the 20″, it’s a nice step up. The 24″ is beautiful, but it is just absurdly large…
Apple does it right every time
This computer is so sexy and slim, very few wires needed. The computer itself is contained in the lower part of the screen. No need for a huge tower to put on the floor and hook a hundred wires to. OS X is beautiful, and ultra powerful.
MS tried to imitate some of the look and feel with the latest windowz release, and now is offering a program to make windowz even more like OS X (the buttons and etc.. are imitated) they have it on their website for a beta download right now. I guess the boys at redmond are concerned about the number of people buying this particular item?
The bottom line is this is what a computer should be, the keyboard is so sexy it probably should be rated R. The only complaint I have is with the mighty mouse, it’s very hard for the mouse to distinguish between a left and right click, but with the beauty and power of this system I can live with it.

Ok, this has been one WONDERFUL machine over the past two years I’ve had it, but all the sudden today I turn it on and I’ve got a cyan line of pixels running vertically across the screen. A permanent line that will not go away. So I googled it and found out that this particular model suffers from this ailment at around the two year mark. Mine just turned two years old (since I bought it). Further, it’s not in warranty, and Apple has not acknowledged it as a product defect. It still functions, but it looks cruddy and imperfect. I’m hearing it will cost me from $700 to $1000 to repair it. Doesn’t seem like something I’ll do since I can buy a new iMac for $1100.
Beware of this model, stick to the 20″ or up, that do not seem to have this malfunction.
